Overview
Verdant is built on a simple privacy principle: your grow data belongs to you. Plant records, journal entries, photos, and environmental history stay on your device. Home Assistant, Edge, and Coach connect only when you choose to use them. We do not sell personal information.
App Data (iOS)
All plant profiles, journal entries, photos, and environmental data you create in the Verdant app are stored in its local SQLite database and photo directory. Device backups are controlled by your operating system and device settings.
Verdant does not require an app account and does not use advertising tracking. If you connect Home Assistant or Verdant Edge, Verdant exchanges the information needed for that feature with the local-network endpoint you configure. Journaling and Verdant's core environment views work without either connection.
Optional Cloud Coach
Coach can run on the device or through Verdant Edge without sending grow data to a public cloud AI provider. If you configure OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google, Verdant connects directly to that provider using the API key you supply. Before the first request to each provider, Verdant identifies that provider and asks permission to send your message and relevant grow context. Grow context may include plant details, journal history, tasks, environment targets, and sensor evidence.
Photos require a separate provider-specific permission before they leave the device. Declining either permission prevents that data from being sent to that provider. The provider processes data under its own terms and privacy policy; Verdant does not operate a proxy for these direct requests.
Waitlist Data (This Website)
When you join the waitlist on this website, we collect your email address. We store it in Vercel KV (a hosted Redis database) and use Resend to send a confirmation email and a launch notification when the app becomes available. We do not sell this data or use it for an unrelated marketing sequence. Hosting and email processors receive the information required to provide those services.
We also log the IP address of the submission request to detect and prevent abuse. This data is not linked to any persistent user profile.
Analytics & Cookies
This website uses Google Analytics to measure aggregate usage and improve the site. Google and Vercel may process technical request data under their own policies. The Verdant app's local grow database is not sent to website analytics. The cookies involved, and how to block them, are listed in our Cookie Policy.
Third-Party Services
This website is hosted on Vercel and uses Resend for transactional email and Google Analytics for website measurement. Optional app integrations include the Home Assistant and Edge endpoints the user configures, plus direct OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Coach connections when the user provides an API key and grants provider-specific consent. Each service has its own privacy policy.
Data Retention
Waitlist email addresses are retained until the app launches. After the launch notification is sent, you may request deletion at any time by contacting us.
Your Rights
You may request to view, correct, or delete any personal data we hold (your waitlist email address). Contact us at privacy@homegrown.guide and we will respond within 30 days.
