Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know before you grow.
Does Verdant work offline?
Yes, completely. All data is stored locally on your device using Swift Data. You do not need an internet connection to create or view journal entries, log environmental data, or take photos. The only feature that requires connectivity is the AI Advisor, which calls your chosen AI provider.
Where is my data stored?
Your data is stored on-device in a local Swift Data database. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it or enable iCloud backup on your own device settings. Verdant has no servers, no cloud sync, and no backend database.
How does the AI Advisor work?
When you ask the AI Advisor a question, Verdant compiles relevant context from your plant profiles and recent journal entries, then sends a structured prompt to your chosen AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) using your own API key. The response is displayed in-app. Verdant does not store or log your conversations.
Do I need my own API key to use the AI Advisor?
Yes. The AI Advisor is designed around a bring-your-own-key model. You provide an API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or a compatible provider. This gives you full control over your data and costs, and means Verdant has no access to your conversations.
What does the AI Advisor in-app purchase unlock?
The one-time in-app purchase unlocks the AI Advisor feature. After purchase, you enter your own API key and can chat with the advisor about any of your plants. The core journaling app — plant records, photo logging, environmental data, timelapse, and export — is free forever.
Is there a subscription?
No. Verdant does not have a subscription. The app is free to download and use in full. The AI Advisor is a single one-time in-app purchase through the App Store.
When will Verdant be available on Android?
Verdant is launching first on iOS. Android is on the roadmap. Join the waitlist to be notified when Android support arrives.
What types of plants can I track?
Any plant. Verdant is designed as a general-purpose grow journal. Cannabis, tomatoes, herbs, houseplants, succulents — anything you grow can be tracked. The strain database is cannabis-focused, but all profile fields work for any plant.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export your full grow history at any time. Your data belongs to you, and you can take it with you whenever you like.
How does the timelapse work?
As you log journal entries with photos, Verdant automatically compiles them into a chronological timelapse for each plant. There is no extra setup — just keep logging photos and the timelapse builds itself.
